This article will walk through how to record a VI-SPDAT assessment and is intended for any project conducting VI-SPDAT assessments.
What is the VI-SPDAT Assessment?
The VI-SPDAT Assessment is a vulnerability tool created by OrgCode Consulting that many CoC's adopted as their housing needs assessment for coordinated entry. WellSky has added the assessment to HMIS for data entry and it will collect detailed responses to the assessment and automatically calculate the assessment score. This does not replace data entry for the Coordinated Entry Assessment data element.
Use of the VI-SPDAT Assessment
All HMIS projects are expected to record every VI-SPDAT assessment made with each client in CoCs that have adopted the VI-SPDAT as their housing needs assessment for the CoC's Coordinated Entry process. Most CoC's have adopted the OrgCode recommended waiting period of 14 days of homelessness or being unsheltered before administering the assessment so HMIS is set up for that workflow. The Individual, Family and Youth assessments are all available in HMIS.
Recording Current Living Situations
1. Set Enter Data As Mode
2. Search for client by name or HMIS ID
3. Set Back Date Mode
4. Click on the Entry/Exit tab
5. Create appropriate assessment
- If this is the first interaction, the VI-SPDAT will be recorded within the Project Start (usually only Outreach and SSO projects)
- If this is an additional interaction, the VI-SPDAT will be recorded within an Interim (most projects)
6. Click Add on the appropriate VI-SPDAT sub-assessment table for the type of VI-SPDAT completed.
7. Fill in the Start Date. This date should match the Back Date Mode and the date of the assessment being completed.
8. Select the correct option from each of the question drop downs until you complete all questions.
9. You can click Calculate if you want to see the score. Either way click Save to save the assessment responses and score.
