ShelterPoint: Responding to a Shelter Bed HMIS Referral

This article provides guidance for responding to an emergency shelter placement referral from within ShelterPoint.

 

  1. Set Enter Data As
  2. Click ShelterPoint.
    • If necessary, select a Unit List and click "Submit" to show the ShelterPoint dashboard.
  3. Click Check In Referral to view the outstanding incoming referrals sent
  4. From the "Outstanding Referrals" table (below the unit/bed list), click the pencil at the front of the row for the client.

  5. Select the appropriate Referral Outcome from the drop down.
    • Accepted - the client is/has entered the shelter
    • Accepted on Waitlist - the client is anticipated to enter but has not come in yet
    • Declined - the shelter is rejecting the client referral
      • Select appropriate option from the If Canceled or Declined, Reason drop down.
    • Cancelled - the client has rejected the shelter referral or no longer is in need of the placement

  6. Check the box for any additional group members joining from the "Household Members" section
    • Be sure to take note of all the HMIS client IDs as you will need them to enter the clients into shelter beds next!
  7. Click Save Referral Information
  8. Enter the client(s) into shelter beds once the client(s) present to the shelter for the bed(s).
